We advise our clients on significant taxation audits and disputes and provide commercial tax advice on complex transactions for public and private groups. Our tax lawyers have formidable taxation knowledge and an unrivalled reputation for vigorously negotiating with the highest-ranking officials from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Our lawyers are expected to have a commercial mindset and advise across a diverse range of income tax and indirect taxation matters, working closely with all the other ABL practice groups.
The Role
An outstanding opportunity exists for an experienced lawyer (circa 4-5 years PQE) to join our preeminent, growing and dynamic tax practice.
You will work directly with partners and clients on sophisticated matters, take personal ownership of matters and transaction workstreams, and develop client relationships as a trusted commercial adviser.
In this role, you will:
advise on tax structuring and implementation for M&A, divestments, joint ventures, reorganisations, fund formations and investments, financings and other strategic transactions;
advise on tax clauses and tax risk allocation in a range of transaction and financing documents;
provide clear, practical and commercially focused advice on complex direct and indirect tax issues;
assist with rulings, clearances and engagement with revenue authorities where relevant; and
collaborate with lawyers and external advisers to deliver integrated advice on complex, time-critical matters.
You will bring
circa 4–5 years' PQE in Australian taxation law, gained in a leading law or professional services firm;
strong experience in advisory and transactional tax work, ideally involving listed groups, managed funds or private groups;
excellent technical, analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to translate complex tax issues into concise, commercially useful advice; and
confidence working directly with clients and other advisers, sound judgement, and a collaborative, curious and proactive approach.
